What we can learn from Peloton's new pricing model

Would you rather charge your client $2,000 up front or get your client on a monthly subscription for $60 - $100?πŸ§β€‹

Great question and what Peloton’s new CEO, Barry McCarthy, is trying to do to get the company back to profitability.

One of my favorite pricing experts Mark Stiving with Impact Pricing, broke this down for us here:

First, notice the CEO chooses the pricing model.
Second, they are making a decision that is difficult for hardware companies to make, but demonstrates confidence in their offering.
Third, changes in market conditions prompt revisiting pricing.
Fourth, supply and demand can drive your pricing strategy.

One of the huge advantages of subscription products is that your clients can engage with you inexpensively to see if your service/products work for them. Peloton’s new pricing strategy does exactly this.

Small But Mighty!

Bigger, better, faster, more revenue, more employees, more marketing, go, go, go...This seems to be the prevalent theme for starting, running, and scaling your business.

But maybe we can be strategic about staying small to build our business around our lifestyle and not our life around our business.

Here are some points to consider for the satisfaction and success in your business:

  • You love solution creation more than managing business.
  • No one else can do the solution delivery like you can.
  • You don't want the big business challenges.
  • Your business model thrives on exclusivity.
  • You want to maintain a good work-life balance.

A Badge of Honor or Distraction?

Being "busy" seems to be a badge of honor for entrepreneurs. The other day I caught myself telling someone this, as if I was proud to be "sooo busy"πŸ€¦β€β™‚οΈ.

Busy for the sake of being busy +Distraction = Not Meeting our goals.

Here are 4 tips to help with this.

1. Establish your flywheel

2. Say β€œNo”

3. Include empty spaces in your calendar

4. Say β€œYes” to the right side projects
